Build An Opt-In List

If you are developing an online business, building your opt-in list is of paramount importance. For newcomers to internet marketing, the initial product launch may well be done through a promotion to a purchased list of interested names. This can often be a good way to begin but can only be a real success in the short term.

Every successful internet marketer will have a list of subscribers from whom a very significant amount of their business will be generated. This list will have been developed over a period of time. To build such a list is not as easy as it sounds. It is not just a question of buying an autoresponder, programming into it a sequence of emails, putting an opt-in form on your website and hope that your emails will drive willing subscribers to your opt-in form. Sadly, it just isn’t that simple.

The above sequence of events is not inaccurate but it does overlook one crucial fact, driving traffic to your website and/or opt-in form is not an easy thing to do. Indeed, it is probably the most difficult single issue in the whole of online business. Even when you have drawn someone to your website and persuaded them to subscribe via your opt-in form, that is, by no means, the end of the story. It is necessary to keep reminding your subscribers that they have subscribed and that you are still there. If you ignore them your subscribers will become your ‘unsubscribers’ next time a message from you does finally arrive. Once on your list you must have a strategy in place to keep these people happy and enjoying being on your list.

Always treat your list with respect and not just as a source of income. If your subscribers feel for one minute as if they are being taken for granted they will be gone in the blink of an eye. Newsletters are a very good way to keep subscribers happy. Sending these out perhaps monthly with lots of interesting content, useful articles and webpage/video links, etc. and all for free. This will keep subscribers aware that you are still out there providing them with helpful and informative material within your niche.

When the time comes to promote a new offer, your subscribers, your opt-in list, are far more likely to respond with purchases than any cold selling you do. They know you; they trust you; they will know, through your newsletters, etc., that whatever you are offering will be good quality and good value. Even if you begin by purchasing leads for your first product launch make the building of your own opt-in list a priority in your business.
