Internet Marketing Motivation

OK, so you’ve finally taken the plunge and started up your internet marketing business. You feel that you finally have your own destiny in your own hands. Whether you are still holding down a job elsewhere or whether you have taken the plunge and ‘gone solo’ you have this satisfying feeling that you are on the way to achieving what you really want from your life. It is highly likely at this stage that you will be in the position of a sole trader having started up your online business from home. The future looks bright, but the present looks rather daunting as you begin to realise just what you have taken on. This is where the necessity of internet marketing motivation becomes such an issue.

Whether or not you succeed in your business venture will rely on a number of different things. Obviously, you will need to learn all the new skills which go with developing an online business. You will have to learn about both the technical and the copywriting aspects of the business. But, even more than these, you will need to get your mind-set right. You will get nowhere without self-motivation, an absolute essential if you are going to establish the sort of business you dream about.

Here are some suggestions to keep you on-track.

First of all you need to be always aware of just why you went into the internet marketing business in the first place. A vision board is an easy and effective way to help you focus on what you are doing and why. A few carefully chosen pictures of the life-style you are going to create for yourself and your family. Keep this vision board where you can see it daily, whether on your computer screen, on your work desk or on the kitchen wall. Never, never lose sight of why you are taking this step into the world of self-employment. There will be days when everything sails along smoothly and life seems wonderful, but there will be other days when difficulties arise and the going gets tough. It is on those latter days when the vision board will become important.

Many who start an online business from home find the isolation of working as a sole trader difficult. If you have a mentor that will help greatly, not just in terms of professional help but also with emotional support, especially on the difficult days when they can help to provide you with the internet marketing motivation you need. Family and close friends can provide a sympathetic ear when you need to talk to someone, acting as a sounding board to bounce ideas off. Even if their knowledge of what you are saying is limited, it makes such a difference to be able to air your issues out loud.

Set yourself deadlines. This might be for a whole project or for certain factors within that project. In my musical life as a composer I know how motivating a deadline can be. If inspiration is running low when writing a piece of music, having a deadline to work to is very motivating; – knowing that on that date a group of musicians have been booked to begin rehearsals of the piece. I find that a great aid to inspiration!

Times of rest and relaxation are so important when involved in intensive activity. Make sure that you incorporate these times into your working day, As an employee you are given breaks and lunchtimes in which to unwind and escape your workstation. Employers know only too well the importance of this. Breaking up the working day will improve the quality of the work being done. Do remember this when you are working on your own at home. Take your breaks, even have an occasional nap, your work will be better for it.

Add in the incentive of treats. Tell yourself that when you have written a particular sales letter, set up the payment link on your website or finished putting together a new product you will reward yourself with a round of golf or lunch at the pub.

By applying the above suggestions in your home-based business, you should find internet marketing motivation easier to achieve. Anything which helps you, personally, to do the work is good news. Even if you are clear in your mind as to why you have started your business in the first place, there is no point in choosing that way to earn a good living if you don’t enjoy the work.

    • Hello. Thank you for your comment. Operating a blog is a bit of a commitment but it is down to the individual blogger to decide how often to add new posts. I find it an enjoyable exercise and a good discipline to add to the blog as often as I can, – which is most days.     • This is always a problem, I think. If people give you credit for the authorship, that’s fine, the more people who read it the better. If they claim it as their own that is of course a breach of copyright and is illegal. Exactlty how to stop that sort of thing happening is difficult. I’m afraid I don’t have an answer. Rob

    • This is a problem for many people. To sit at the desk or computer staring at a blank piece of paper or balank monitor screen is horrible. I avoid that be doing my thinking whilst engaging in mundane ‘physical’ tasks such as tidying the house, doing the washing up, weeding the garden – whilst letting my mind run over possible topics to write about. Only when I know what I want to write about do I return to the desk or computer. Try it! Best wishes, Rob

    • I leave the desk and/or computer and do the housework, gardening, etc. and allow my mind to wander until an idea comes to me. Then I return to my comoputer.
