Ruses Gurus Use

Sorry about the title, it rolls off the tongue so well I couldn’t resist it. “Ruse” is an interesting word. If you look it up in a thesaurus it gives alternatives such as: “game plan”, “stratagem” and “gambit” all of which are applicable to internet marketing. There is, however, a dark side to the word with alternatives such as: “hoax”, “sham” and “deceit”, words which have no place in the world of online business at any time.

We regularly read and hear people referring to the “Gurus” of internet marketing. These are invariably highly successful marketers whose presentations and writings inspire others to success – they both “walk the walk” and “talk the talk”. It is said that when it comes to running your own business online, the very best way to go about it is to copy those who have been successful. It does, therefore, make sense to listen to the gurus and follow their advice so you can replicate their success.

Let us look at some of the tactics, strategies and ruses that the gurus use to make their money. First of all, they will always begin any new project by finding a marketplace rather than a product. The product will come later. They will seek out a hungry crowd of people with a burning enthusiasm for a topic and money to spend on it. This is usually referred to as a niche These people are permanently on the lookout for any material to feed their passion. Once you have found such a market, “you are laughing”, as the saying goes. At this point the gurus will create, or have created a website, through which to connect to this marketplace.

The next step is to cultivate those people and attract them to their list by the offer of free items such as newsletters, e-books, audio or video files, even, physical products. Whilst involved in that process the gurus will be deciding on appropriate products to offer. They will be looking for not just one product but two or even three. The initial product offer will be a high quality, low cost item to draw a purchase from their list of subscribers. The buyers will then be offered another more expensive concatenated product. Concatenated is another word widely used in internet marketing. In this context it is the offer of another product which links to the previous offer (like a chain). These follow up offers are commonly known as backend products. The purchasers of these second products will ultimately receive further even more valuable and expensive offers.

Most gurus will create their own products. This is far and away the best way as these products will be totally unique. Sometimes, however, they will buy Private Label Rights products with a Master Licence which enables them to create new products from existing material by rebranding. Some top marketers do use affiliate marketing too as a rich source of quality products, although this does require research to seek out products of high value.

The gurus will also have an autoresponder at the heart of their business. It simply isn’t possible for them to run their internet business without one. These are their own personal assistants that can do so many different things within their business plan. Autoresponders are on duty 24 hours a day, every day of the year. They are never ill, don’t need lunch breaks, don’t need to go to the bathroom, don’t have grumpy days and don’t rely on congested roads or crowded trains to get them to work on time. When it comes to communicating with an opt-in list, and following up on new customers autoresponders are, quite simply, indispensable.

These then are some of the ruses gurus use. They are the successes in the sphere of online business, so we cannot possibly do better than copy what they do if we want to achieve what they have achieved.
