Money is a means to an end and not an end in itself

17One of the issues which I have read about and heard about from different writings and presentations recently regards motivation and mind set. In answer to the question, “What are you trying to achieve through internet marketing?” many will give the simple response, “To make money!”. Whereas that is obviously true, to concentrate purely on the money will almost certainly lead you in the wrong direction time after time.

My first real introduction to internet marketing came through the writings and DVD’s of Andrew Reynolds. In every presentation of his which I have watched he makes the point, “This isn’t about money. It is about freedom, time, lifestyle and the quality of life which money can provide.” Money is a means to an end and not an end in itself. In business, money should be the consequence of the work you do, not the motivation for it.

If you can find ways to help people, provide people with answers or information they need, – then you can make money. So, focus on the means and not the outcome if you wish to be successful.

The American songwriter, Irving Berlin, wrote the well-known song, “Money is the root of all evil”, which many people mistakenly believe is a quote from the bible, – which it isn’t! The passage in the bible speaks of “The LOVE of money is A root of evil”. The point of the passage is that putting the accumulation of money at the very heart of what you do will almost certainly lead to problems. This echoes very closely the words of Andrew Reynolds given earlier in this blog. Money is a means to an end and not an end in itself.

If you want to succeed in your internet marketing, find a group of people with a problem and help them to solve it by providing products and/or information they need.
